- Glossary section revised, 11/03/06.
For the music for the main floor of the Mueller, we had
been using a CD player, which had a nasty habit of
playing just one disc and then stopping. The people
at the front desk can't really hear the music playing
in the cardio room, so it would take a sustained period of silence
before we caught on.
Brian Napier went to a lot of trouble to change the system
so it played music off my computer through Winamp. There are still a
few kinks to fix - we apologize for the moments
of dulling quiet that have happened.
First of all, we are just learning the quirks of Winamp, like
one time somehow it had been turned to "mute". Also, there
is a cable that goes under the front desk and we have discovered
it sometimes gets unplugged.
At the moment, only Amanda and I can log on and get to the music.
We are working with the systems people at the Union to set up
a dummy account which any student worker can access to play the
music. (The account has been set up, but it doesn't have access
to the music file yet.)
And last but not least, Brian likes a lot of Country & Western, to
the dismay of many of you. Over time, we will be adding more
songs of different popular genre to provide more variety.
- More random thoughts by yours truly.
- You may have noticed a flurry of work on this site
early in the fall, and since then a lull. Well, there is
a lot going on behind the scenes that will eventually result
in big improvements (as of 1/08/04).
As you are probably aware, our first attempts at video
were pretty amateurish. I was able to take a 40 second
clip on my digital camera, but with no sound, and I had
no way to edit it. The Student Union became aware of
this and worked to remedy it.
First of all, we needed a computer powerful enough
to edit the video. The Union got a new computer
just with that in mind.
Now we need to get the editing software, and I need
to learn how to use it.
We also want to get a digital video camera, and that
is in next year's budget. We are hoping to find some
way to get use of a camera before then, and then spend
a couple of days just filming and finish off the rest
of the exercises. So keep checking back and wish us
luck.

- Lunges info including video clip, 10/11/03.
- Dumbbell flies
info including video clip, 10/11/03.
- One arm row

- Video clips of the Jamn squat machine, 9/28/03.
- More information added to the Abs section, 9/25/03, including a video clip on
leg raises.
- Two more video clips added, 9/24/03:
- Routines, 9/18/03.
- Our first video clips. The clip aren't narrated, and these are just the raw footage as we don't have
the software to edit them, but here they are, 9/16/03;
- Just got a copy of Strength Training Anatomy by Frederic Delavier. This is filled with anatomical terms, which
you will see being used more and more in this site. Hopefully we will keep the Glossary up to date
to define and explain these.
- As part of setting up this site, the format is being sketched-in, with mostly blank pages being added to get the links set up.
Since it will take awhile to get ALL the exercises demonstrated, please let us know of any you want to see now, or have questions on,
as a way to direct us.
- We continue to post information on how to use the Cybex,
Paramount, and other equipment, 9/14/03. Our grand plan is to do the same for all
the equipment, including free weights, and eventually do these demonstrations with narrated videos.
To start with, all of the Mueller workstudies are being given a chance to demonstrate one exercise each. After that, we will
offer this opportunity to ALL members of the RPI community, particularly students, whether you are in good shape or just
starting out. If you would like to sign up on a first-come, first-serve basis, come to my office in the basement of Davison
any Wednesday evening from 7 to 7:30. Entrance by the tennis courts - just ring the doorbell. - JN
- History
- Getting Started
- Coming soon (hopefully) - Narrated video clips of how to do every exercise properly, and common mistakes not to do.
